Role: Project Manager
This complex and challenging project was initiated in 2019 and completed in 2022 for the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks Department after another contractor could not complete the project. Our mission was to address the significant soil erosion from the undesignated trail network and replace it with a professionally designed, sustainable trail. The project involved renovating existing trails and constructing 3.5 miles of new 36” wide trail for hikers and runners. 1290 SF of dry-laid, native stone retaining walls and 416 imported stone steps helped ensure the project's long-term sustainability. To ensure the safety of the public and crews expanding the trail, safety protocols were implemented, including using helicopters (112 flights) to transport heavy materials such as stone pallets (67 tons) and machinery. Since the helicopter drops were so close to the City of Boulder and other open trail systems, multiple crews were coordinated to ensure the safety of the public and project teams during the drops, ensuring there was no access to closed-off areas.
