Oregon Trails Coalition is pleased to be partnering with U.S. Forest Service Region 6, Bureau of Land Management OR-WA Office, Clackamas Community College, and other partners to make available a specialized first aid and CPR certification program for staff and volunteers performing trails stewardship activities on our public lands.
This Basic First Aid and CPR Certification with a Wilderness Focus offered through Clackamas Community College has two required parts:
An online, self-paced learning module (4-6 hours) to be completed in advance of the onsite skills assessment.
An in-person skills verification (approx. 6 hours).
This course was designed to meet the need of volunteers and agency personnel that work in the woods. It differs from standard workplace first aid and CPR in that it addresses the unique situations and environments that volunteer trail workers, forest recreation staff, foresters and wildland firefighters might encounter. This is an introductory course that introduces and develops core skills to help injured or sick people in backcountry situations. This course also includes CPR and AED training and certification.
By registering for this program through one of the links below, you will receive the following at least two weeks before the scheduled skills verification: a participation waiver, information on how to access the online training portal, and information about what bring and what to expect at the in-person training.
The online learning module must be completed in advance of the in-person skills verification.
Skills verification will be offered outdoors in groups of 7-10 participants per instructor. Skills verification will require participants to interact with others in their small group as practice patients and aid providers with standard health precautions in place.
CCC uses the American Safety and Health Institute's (ASHI) Medic First Aid curriculum. Participants will receive ASHI Medic First Aid with CPR and AED cards valid for two years upon the successful completion of skills verification.
The trainings offered here are meant for trail stewardship staff and volunteers serving as crew leaders and/or pursuing sawyer certification for trail work conducted on public lands.
If you're a volunteer doing trail work on public lands, you're invited to register at a discounted rate. Please pay what you can to ensure we can train as many volunteers as possible with the support of USFS and BLM.
